ElephantDrive Review

ElephantDrive
ElephantDrive

ElephantDrive is a cloud date backup site that is a good choice for those who are new to cloud storage and want to protect their files and make them available for use anywhere the go or sync their files across multiple computers. The combination of cloud backup and file syncing is very handy, eliminating the need to use multiple services to organize files.

Features

ElephantDrive provides a number of useful features that are unique compared to other cloud backup and file syncing companies. One of their more interesting ones is the fact that they directly integrate with network storage services like NETGEAR and QNAP.

Other features include:

  • Automatic backup for all your files.
  • File versioning
  • Web Access
  • File syncing across multiple devices (supports both Mac and Windows).
  • File sharing: easily share files with your friends.
  • Android app for easy access on smartphones.
  • Support for NAS (QNAP, Thecus and NETGEAR) for securing your data in a network.

Security

ElephantDrive uses an SSL connection for security during file transfers. Information is protected by 256-bit AES encryption. They also offer personal encryption keys for additional security. All of ElephantDrive’s servers are located in facilities that are carefully temperature-controlled and protected from extreme weather or accidents. They even have special employee security measures in place for extra protection of your data. Compared to many other cloud backup solutions out there ElephantDrive really takes security VERY seriously.

Storage

Like most cloud backup services ElephantDrive offers several storage plans with different amounts of space and prices. If you don’t have a lot of data you can just use their free plan, which allows you to store up to 2GB. The Personal plan starts at $9.95/month (for 100GB) and offers up to 2TB of data storage. Their Business plan, which comes with managed restores and consulting, starts at 50GB for $25/month.

Ease of Use

ElephantDrive is quite simple and straightforward to use. They make it easy to not only backup your files, but also share them with others and restore them to your computer. It is compatible with Windows, OS X, iOS and Android.

Help/Support

ElephantDrive offers support through email, phone and an online contact form. Phone support is only available during business hours. Help requests are usually handled within 24 hours. They also provide several video tutorials that explain how to use the service as well as a FAQ database.

What Others Are Saying:

ElephantDrive is a top choice for individuals who would like the option of backing up multiple devices to the cloud without paying extra for each. It includes simple yet robust features and if you use a NAS then it’s probably already integrated since it’s integrated with more NAS products than any other cloud backup service. Although users with video files over 1GB will want to look elsewhere.

Overall

ElephantDrive is a good choice for those who want a combination of a backup and synchronization service. They offer 2GB free storage and a 15-day free trial of their paid plans. Their mobiles solutions are also quite good.

Their main downside is the fact that file size limits of 1GB are somewhat restrictive and they are not the cheapest option out there.
